MLGU Balbalan backs young champions with CASH incentives after 2026 Kalinga Provincial Meet Success

Balbalan, Kalinga – Winning iBalbalan athletes in the 2026 Kalinga Provincial Athletic Meet are set to receive cash incentives from the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU), according to Mayor Almar Malannag.

Balbalan hauled a total of 198 medals—58 gold, 76 silver, and 64 bronze—in the province-wide sports festival held in Taga, Pinukpuk from January 13 to 17, placing third overall in the medal tally.

With youth empowerment as one of the key priorities of Mayor Malannag’s administration, the MLGU of Balbalan has been consistently providing cash incentives to students who excel in sports, academics, and skills competitions, from the provincial to the international level.

For Provincial Athletic Meet medalists, athletes are eligible to receive P800 for gold, P600 for silver, and P400 for bronze.

Malannag said the municipality is currently awaiting the submission of the final list of winning athletes from the recently concluded sports festival. Once received, the list will be endorsed to the Local Finance Committee for processing.

For regional competitions such as the CARAA, iBalbalan gold medalists will receive P1,500, P1,300 for silver, and P1,000 for bronze. Meanwhile, national-level gold medalists will receive P10,000, P7,000 for silver, and P5,000 for bronze.

Athletes who compete in international sporting events will receive P20,000 for gold, P17,000 for silver, and P15,000 for bronze.
