Lagawe, Ifugao – Under the leadership of Mayor Leslie Roy L. Nayahangan, the night market in Lagawe, Ifugao has generated more than ₱1,000,000 in gross sales during its first week of operation, according to Municipal Executive Assistant Jonathan Biwit.

The night market is part of the local government’s efforts to provide a venue for families to enjoy the Christmas season while helping local businesses earn additional income by giving them a space to sell their products.

Located along the national road beside Lagawe Central School, the night market offers the public a wide variety of food and non-food items, keeping the provincial capital active and vibrant at night.

Apart from shopping and dining, the night market also features activities such as Zumba sessions, Bingo Bonanza, and cosplay appearances, among others, offered by more than 40 stalls.

In a Facebook post, Biwit shared that the more than ₱1 million generated during the night market’s first week is based on the nightly sales monitoring records of the Municipal Tourism Office, headed by Tourism Officer Lylah Claire Maquera.

The figure is expected to continue increasing until the bazaar closes on December 30.

“Numbers don’t lie, with gross sales reaching over ₱1M as the Lagawe Night Market enters its second week of evening trading. As reflected in the records of the nightly sales monitoring conducted by Tourism Officer Lylah Claire Maquera, the sales trend of exhibitors showed an upward climb from the night market’s inception to the closing of the books at week’s end,” Biwit reported.

Aside from boosting the income of local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Biwit said that as of December 16, the night market has also generated 120 part-time and full-time job opportunities for local residents.

“In a recent survey, the Lagawe Night Market—both in its dry goods and food business sections—recorded a total of 120 hired part-time and full-time staff across 43 stalls, averaging nearly three jobs generated per business entity. Specifically, the 13 dry goods stalls employed 19 workers, while the 30 food and beverage stalls hired 101 workers, averaging one to two and three to four seasonal jobs generated, respectively,” he added.

The Lagawe Night Market operates daily from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. until December 30, except on December 25.
