NPA killed, firearms recovered in Gattaran, Cagayan clash site

Gattaran, Cagayan – The Philippine Army was saddened with another life wasted in a senseless cause.


The New People's Army lost another member in an encounter with troops of the Philippine Army’s 77th Infantry Battalion with 52nd Division Reconnaissance Company (DRC) in Barangay Tanglangan, Gattaran, Cagayan on March 17, 2023.


To recall, 2 NPAs were killed, while 1 rebel was injured in a clash in Baggao, Cagayan on February 13.


This Friday, the army conducted a security operation after receiving a report about the presence of NPA insurgents in the village. The troops discovered the rebels’ location, resulting in a 30-minute gunfight.

Around 20 members of the Komiteng Probinsya Cagayan and Isabela, Komiteng Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley fled after the firefight, leaving behind the remains of their slain companion that is yet to be identified.


Soldiers, meanwhile, recovered one K3 Squad automatic rifle, M653 assault rifle, one R4 assault rifle, three rifle grenades, three improvised explosive devices, 14 blasting caps, two rolls of detonating cord, one detonator, 69 rounds of cal. 45 ammunition, 376 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, 150 rounds of Armalite link ammunition, three bandoliers, and other subversive documents.


Pursuit operation continues as of today, March 18, 2023.
