Over 9,000 trees planted in Cordillera on Arbor Day


Baguio City, Philippines - In celebration of Philippine Arbor Day on Saturday, June 25, 2022, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Cordillera Administrative Region planted more than 9,000 mixed species of trees in the different provinces.


According to DENR-Cordillera, the species planted were Benguet pine, narra, mahogany, yemane, alibangbang, ipil ipil, auri, jackfruit, molave, coffee, raintree, tibug, guava, bamboo, acacia, tuai, guyabano, and dalipawen.


The trees, the department said, were planted in sites within protected areas, National Greening Program plantations, and identified watersheds in the region.

In Abra, a total of 1,160 varieties of trees were planted, 679 in Apayao, 3,757 in Benguet, 965 in Ifugao, 760 in Kalinga, and 1,800 in Mountain Province.


The activity was carried out in partnership with various government agencies, law enforcement agencies, non-government organizations, Professional Regulation Commission-regulated organizations, local government units, schools and universities, civil society groups and partner people's organizations.


The tree-planting intends to protect and restore the environment as well as to promote the conservation of natural resources.
