P.5M worth of Narra cut illegally seized in Kalinga

Pinukpuk, Kalinga – Half a million worth of illegally sawn Narra lumber was intercepted from a truck Tuesday morning, July 26 in Katabbogan, Pinukpuk.


Police Major Garry Gayamos, in a phone interview with Guru Press Cordillera, narrated the police flagged down a 10-wheeler dump truck loaded with lumber along the Katabbogan-Junction road after receiving information about the alleged transport of illegally cut wood.

Without being able to present any legal documents of the cargo, authorities arrested the driver identified as Rodelio Dela Cruz, 42, and resident of San Miguel, Bulacan.


Around 220 pieces of Narra lumber scaled at 4,807.67 board feet were recovered from the truck. This is said to be worth P575,920.22.


The driver and the confiscated pieces of wood were brought to Kalinga Police Provincial Office.


A case of violation of Presidential Decree 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines is being prepared for filing against the arrested suspect.
