P10M first super health center in Cordillera nears completion

Abra, Philippines – Better access to quality healthcare services will soon be experienced by people in Tayum, Abra including those living in neighboring towns as the construction of the first Super Health Center in the region nears completion.

Tayum is the first municipality in Cordillera region to gain funding from the Department of Health for the said establishment, announced the locally-based government information network.

With P10 million budget, the Super Health Center also called as polyclinic is expected to offer basic and specialized health services.

Specifically, it will provide database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray and ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation center and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done.

Why put up Super Health Centers?

Earlier, the health department stressed such “super” health centers were funded to prevent rise in hospital occupancy.

“These super health centers have equipment that can be found in hospitals so that we can unload hospitals. We have started these super health centers where basic tests that are often needed to be conducted in hospitals can be done here, without the need for people to go to higher level facilities,” DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said in last year’s briefing.

On July 27, 2022, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake jolted the landlocked region with the epicenter located in Tayum, affecting hundreds of thousands of people.
