P25.8M Tinglayan access road brings safer, easier travel and transport of products

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Residents of Dananao and Poblacion Tinglayan are now assured of safe travel, easier transport of agricultural produce, and other products with the turn-over of the P25,895,000 worth access road heading to Dananao, Tinglayan on Wednesday, October 21, 2021.

The 408-meter access road benefits 105 households in Dananao besides other travelers and business people who shall be using the said road.

According to Larae Lactao, Municipal Information Officer of Tinglayan, said road had been posing problems to commuters who are mostly farmers since vehicle owners would refuse to go to said barangay due to the poor road conditions.

Lactao shared that Dananao had been complaining about the difficulty of bringing their products to the market and had been clamoring that their barangay road be improved as soon as possible.

“This road will be a big help for us. The services of the government can now easily reach us and it will also be easier for our farmers to deliver their products because most of the time, drivers would refuse to come to the barangay due to the rough road,” said Dananao Barangay Captain Johnny Sumalag.

With the road being opened and upgraded, making it an all-weather road, Sumalag expressed gratitude to the local government of Tinglayan headed by Mayor Sacrament and Gumilab and all agencies that were instrumental in the realization of said road.

He also expressed hope that the road project will continue and that Tinglayan LGU continues to fund said road project until it will finally reach Barangay Dananao.

“Daytoy nga katurn-turn over lang ket adda actually idiay middle ti road ngem addan dagidiay dadduma a parts a sementado en,” Lactao explained in an interview.

Source of funds

According to her, the opening and construction of the access road leading to Dananao has started in 2019 having been funded P8 million from the 2019 DBM-LGSF (Department of Budget and Management - Local Government Support Fund), P1 million from the LGU fund and P8 million from the 2019 AM-LGSF (Assistance to Municipalities- Local Government Support Fund).

Funding continued in 2020 with a P8, 895,000 allocations from 2020 AM-LGSF 2020.

Lactao said 9 million was used for the road opening towards Dananao and 16.895 million for the widening and concreting of road as well as riprapping.

“Since 2016, a plan to establish a road network that connects all barangays in Tinglayan district has been at work. Its purpose is not simply to open roads that lead directly to the barangay, but to create better road access in order to deliver government services to the people, create an accessible farm to market road, and open an alternative route in case of emergency and serves as tourism road too,” she narrated.

For Mayor Gumilab, the completion of the Dananao road is one step forward in achieving the road network plan. He added that he will continue to work to achieve said plan as this is crucial to the development of the municipality.

“The primordial priority of the administration is to establish a road network that connects all the barangays of Tinglayan because when all barangays are connected by road, fast pace of development is sure to follow,” he said.
