P50 to P60 daily wage hike in Cordillera expected

Updated: May 26, 2022

Baguio City, Philippines – The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board Office – Cordillera granted a P50 to P60 daily wage hike in the region to be given in two tranches.

Regional Director of Department of Labor and Employment, Atty. Nathaniel Lacambra on Monday, May 23, 2022, relayed the new minimum wage order released by the board thru Regional News Group - RNG Luzon.

“Dalawang bigay kasi unti-unti palang naman na umaangat yung ating mga negosyante,” Lacambra explained.

The regional director said that for the first tranche, areas with existing P350 minimum daily wage like Baguio City, Tabuk City and La Trinidad will have P30 increase, while the rest which are currently implementing P340 will have P40 hike.

The second tranche, he added, will start on January 1, 2023. This will add P20 more to the daily wage, making the minimum wage in the region to P400.

The new wage order only awaits the approval of the National Wages and Productivity Commission for the increase to be made effective.

Lacambra underscored that employers with less than 10 workers may apply or file for exemption.

“Now, kung hirap sila talaga, maliliit, employing less than 10 workers, meron tayong provision on exemption. Pwede silang mag-apply, mag-file sa board ng exemption,” he stated.
