Tabuk City, Kalinga – Volunteer workers in the municipality of Pasil extended appreciation and gratitude to those behind the implementation of Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) which addressed the needs of the community.

KALAHI-CIDSS is a poverty alleviation program of the national government through Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which engages communities together with the barangay and municipal LGUs to choose and design their desired development projects.

During the forum held earlier this December 6 spearheaded by DSWD-CAR personnel, long-time volunteers Delia Wa-il and Rema Bakidan thanked the local government unit under the leadership of Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag Jr. for their partnership with DSWD, therefore, allowing the KALAHI-CIDSS in the municipality.

Bakidan shared that the projects they identified, such as the bridges and footpath implemented in Dangtalan, have contributed to their safety and efficiency saying, “nalaka kami nga magna, passable amin, masikug ka man.”

Both lauded the process followed by KALAHI-CIDSS where DSWD personnel along with barangay and MLGU officials are reaching out and letting the community identify the projects. It is with this program, the volunteers said, that they are empowered with their involvement.

“Na-involve amin nga tattao ken naempower kami,” added the volunteers.

These experiences have pushed Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang to file a version of the Community-Driven Development (CDD) Bill, which is currently pending before the House of Representatives.
