Tabuk City, Kalinga – Authorities in the province monitored a decline in rape last month, marking a 75% decrease from the ones reported for the same time in 2022.

Rape was cited as one of the most prevalent crimes in the Philippines last year. Statistics from the Philippine National Police showed a total of 7,197 rape cases documented from January 1 – November 13, 2022.

While it is lower compared to the figure in 2021, said number indicates there are at least 22 rape cases being recorded in the country a day for the first 11 months of 2022.

In Kalinga, sexual assault was seen to have declined in March 2023, according to the Kalinga Police Provincial Office data.

From being the top most recorded index crime in March last year with 4 cases, rape dropped to a single incident last month.

The decline in cases in the province is attributed to the continuous information education campaign against rape, Kalinga Police Information Officer, PCapt. Ruff Manganip relayed.

He said that the police officers in the province are relentlessly educating the people against said crime, utilizing various platforms such as social media and face-to-face interaction with the people through visiting community and schools in Kalinga.
