Bontoc, Mountain Province – Three houses were burned down on Tuesday night, May 31, at Camp 1st Lt. Geronimo F. Montes, Bontoc.

The Provincial Information Office (PIO) of Bontoc reports that the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office were notified of the incident at around 11:10 PM which allegedly originated from a house currently occupied by some police and AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) personnel.

The fire swiftly spread that it razed the two nearby residential houses. Said houses were owned by Gabriel Lucas and the Lamarca family.

The house of Lucas is currently occupied by their relatives, while the other house has no occupants.

Further, the escalation of the fire was prevented by the responding personnel of Bontoc MDRRMO, BFP-Bontoc, Mt. Province Police, Bontoc Emergency Response Team, Bontoc MHO, MOPRECO, and volunteers from the community.

Accordingly, the occupants of the Lucas’ house were saved from the fire as they stayed overnight at the house of the Rancudo family since they were planning to go to Baguio the next day.

In the meantime, evacuees of the said incident are staying at the house of Juliet Corpuz at the Barracks Compound.

The Bontoc PIO states that damage reports will soon be published after the results of the ongoing investigation are officially released.

The Bontoc Local Government Unit through its Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office provided food packs, hygiene kits and family kits to the evacuees as initial assistance.
