The municipality's implementation of the DOST Smart and Sustainable Communities aimed at equipping the municipality for improved quality of life, a competitive economy, and for sustainability.

Santa Marcela LGU, working hand in hand with the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO), was given the opportunity to conceptualize and propose their own projects under this program, based on the communities' crucial needs, opportunities, and visions.

Undersecretary Mabborang further stated that the establishment of Smart and Sustainable programs will allow the department achieve its intent of digitally transformed communities. He also expressed his support to local governments that would indulge in the initiative, for which the municipality of Santa Marcela in the province of Apayao has been specified.

"We will be assisting...and expect that the Department of Science and technology(DOST) will pour out resources to make this community become smart and sustainable," Mabborang said.
