Santa Marcela LGU to penalize violators of road dirt ordinance

Santa Marcela, Apayao - The Local Government Unit of Santa Marcela will impose sanctions on any violation committed against legislated municipal ordinance No.003 series of 2023, dated October 13.

Said ordinance "regulating the use of reapers, rotors and other Agricultural vehicles that cause the municipal roads dirty and slippery" was authored by Councilors Hydee Tesalona and Bobby Balanay and was approved by Sangguniang Bayan headed by Vice Mayor Rolly Urayani Guiang.

It aimed to prevent possible vehicular accidents which might occur along public roads and highways.

According to statistics, road accidents are one of the leading causes of death and injury in the country, and the state of public roads and highways has considerably contributed to the rising number of fatalities and injuries on the roads.

The Santa Marcela police in collaboration with the LGU was tasked with inspecting all main roads and highways within the municipality for dispersed dirt or stones that could endanger vehicles and riders.

According to the ordinance's guidelines, the fines are as follows: P1,000.00 for the first offense, P1,500.00 for the second offense, and P2,500.00 for the third offense, with cancellation of the permit to operate

Similarly, an additional regulation will be drafted soon to regulate the usage of dump trucks due to having stones dispersed over the highways.

Meantime, Mayor Evelyn Martinez highlighted that such actions are geared at the general welfare of the population.
