Security guard disguised as NPA robs store in Baguio City

Updated: Oct 14, 2022

Baguio City, Philippines – The Baguio City police arrested on Monday, June 27, 2022 a security guard posing as a member of New People’s Army (NPA) to rob a convenient store in the city.

The Public Information Office of Police Regional Office – Cordillera identified the suspect as Micheal Angelo Morella, 23, resident of La Trinidad, Benguet.

The robber, according to the report, handed a note saying "Kami po ay mga NPA Huwag sisigaw o kikilos ng masama Carmelo Louise F. Juson buhay o pera and aming malilikom ay tulong sa NPA matagal ka namin pinagmamasdan."

Instead of feeling alarmed, the manager disregarded the note.

This angered Morella who then pointed his gun at the store crew and asked the manager to transfer all the money from the cash counter to his bag. The counter, at that time, holds around P11,000 cash.

He also held the other store staff as hostages and locked them in the walk-in room.

Outside the convenience store, a customer noticed the incident and reported it to the police.

Responding to the incident, the police arrested Morella.

The Cal. 38 revolver with five bullets was seized from the suspect.

Morella, now in the custody of BCPO Camdas Police Station (PS2), is set to face charges for violations of Article 293 of the Revised Penal Code or Robbery with intimidation and RA 10591 known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition and Regulation Act of 2013.
