Senate probe for disappearance, abduction of Igorot PDEA Agent sought

Updated: Aug 13, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa is pushing for a Senate investigation to shed light on the reported disappearance and abduction of an anti-narcotics agent, Merton Fesway from Bontoc, Mountain Province.

Through Resolution No. 812, Dela Rosa has asked the senators to conduct an investigation on the case of Fesway who was reported missing on June 25, 2021, after he was allegedly abducted outside the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency office in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Dela Rosa stated that Fesway revealed to his “buddy” the identity of the female confidential informant whom he was supposed to meet prior to his disappearance.

Dela Rosa sought a prompt investigation citing the case of PDEA agent Enrico Barba, who was found dead on February 18, 2019, after a supposed meeting with a confidential informant for a planned anti-drug operation. It was reported that Barbra’s team leader could no longer contact him on the evening when he was supposed to meet his informant.

“To be able for PDEA to pursue a forceful, intensive and unrelenting campaign against drug trafficking, and the use of illegal drugs as mandated by existing laws and executive orders, there is a need to ensure the safety and security of its agents and personnel,” Dela Rosa stated, adding that the disappearance and killings of law enforcers affect public’s trust and confidence on efforts of implementing peace and order in the country.

For this reason, he called on the appropriate senate committee to conduct a probe into the case of Fesway, “with the end in view of recommending legislative measures that would ensure the protection and safety of law enforcement agents in the performance of their respective mandated duties.”

Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Bayan of Bontoc earlier filed a resolution appealing to the National Bureau of Investigation, Commission on Human Rights, Philippine National Police, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and other appropriate agencies to investigate Fesway’s disappearance.
