Session Road, Baguio City in full bloom, symbolizes recovery

Baguio City, Philippines – After two years, the Session Road in Baguio City is in full bloom once again, signifying economic recovery amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dubbed as ‘Session Road in Bloom,’ the week-long activity is part of the traditional Panagbenga Festival when the roads of the town are closed to traffic to accommodate local Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to showcase and sell their products.

Ordinance No. 19, series of 2022 earlier signed by the city officials, orders the temporary closure of Session Road from SM rotunda and its adjoining roads and streets such as Governor Pack Road, Assumption Road, Fr. Carlo Loop, Calderon Street, and Perfecto Street from March 20 to 27, 2022 for said activity.

According to Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc., the number of stalls allowed to operate was limited to 208 from the usual 500 stalls pre-pandemic. This is to ensure that social distancing of 1.5 meters will be observed.

All the stall owners underwent screening and were tasked to submit requirements for the proper observance of health and safety protocols aside from the usual food and sanitation standards.

“Talagang ipu-pursue din natin because again, kung hindi natin gawin ito, baka makakalimutan na yung ginagawa natin for Panagbenga activities and this is the start of our recovery,” stated Atty. Mauricio Domogan, Chairman of Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc. through PTV-Cordillera.

Aside from the Session Road in Bloom, there will be Flower Tee Golf Tournament on March 25 to 26 at the Baguio Country Club, Fluvial Parade at Burnham Park Lake on March 26, Closing Fireworks Display at Melvin Jones Grandstand, Football Ground, and Session Road on March 27, and Bikes in Bloom by Motocamp Driving School from April 2 to 3.
