Shabu in slipper intercepted in Kalinga jail


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Jail guards in Kalinga intercepted a heat-sealed transparent sachet of suspected shabu put inside a hole of a pair of slippers at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – Kalinga, Purok 6, Bulanao, Tabuk City morning of Wednesday, September 28.


The suspected shabu weighs 0.8 grams with an estimated value of P5,440, according to BJMP-Kalinga.


Report of the Tabuk City Police Station said BJMP personnel notified them of the situation, that they caught a man delivering a contraband put inside a Sandugo slipper.



At around 8 AM yesterday, BJMP personnel were conducting inspection on items delivered to a certain Gian Vincent De La Cruz- a person deprived of liberty when they noticed the suspected shabu in one of the slippers.


The suspect – a 24-year-old male, whose name was withheld by police, said he was only asked by his neighbor to deliver the items. These include 4 pieces of detergent soaps and 2 bath soaps, and the pair of slippers.


Even with said explanation, police said the suspect will be facing charges for Violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Meantime, onsite inventory was made duly witnessed by media representatives, Department of Justice-Tabuk, and barangay officials.


The confiscated items, along with the suspect, were then brought to Tabuk City Police Station for proper documentation.
