After thinking that all hope is lost and that his son will have to live through his life with imperforate anus, Mila Domingo Corpus had her hopes back after her son, Coco, was finally brought to a doctor this June 1.
“Haan ko maawatan ma’am nu anya iti riknak ngem makaturog nakun ta kasla a nalag-anan nak talaga ma’am. Kasi idi, napukawan nakun iti nam-nama a ma-opera daytoy ubing, nagkaroon nak ulit iti lakas ta narugyan mettenen [diay proseso],” Mila said in a phone call.
Mila became a single mum to her four children because she let her ailing husband go back to his first family in 2014, the year she was pregnant with Coco. She made the decision despite being pregnant because she could not provide for his maintenance. She barely finished grade 4, so she is dependent on manual work where she gets P200 as an average daily wage. This, she said, could barely shoulder their expenses at home such as food.
Thus, she could not afford Coco’s operation and other medical expenses.
Her story was featured by GURU Press last May 25. After her story was published, donations poured that as of June 1, a total of P27,000 money was generated.
With this, Mila’s 7-year-old son was brought to CVMC to have his long overdue check-up.
PSSg. Jane Malaga, the one who have discovered Coco first after she was following a case in Pinucoc and the one who told GURU Press about him, brought Coco first to the Pinukpuk Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Rizal Cala for the initial assessment
The MHO said, Coco will need 3 operations to correct the defect and he referred the boy to the CVMC.
Jane then brought Mila and Coco to CVMC this Tuesday. However, they arrived pass 11 in the morning where they don’t already receive patients from the outpatient department.
She tried to talk with the emergency room doctor where they were accomodated. After the doctor assessed Coco, they were told to return in June 7 for the assessment and scheduling for his surgery.
Meanwhile, Mila said that according to the doctor in CVMC, the surgery will be free. However, they have to handle the other expenses that the hospital could not provide such as medicines, food, and other expenses during their stay in Tuguegarao.
On the other hand, PSSg. Jane is now processing the needed documents for Mila to get more assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
