SLU graduates dominate August 2023 MedTech board exam

Baguio City, Philippines – All 152 examinees from Saint Louis University passed the August 2023 Medical Technologists Licensure Examination, making it the top-performing school.


Of the successful takers from the university, Sam Jeffrey B. Tiongco scored 93.30 percent to claim the top spot, the Professional Regulation Commission on Thursday announced.

It was during the September 2015 board exam when the school produced a graduate who grabbed the highest place.


After eight years, SLU came back strong to claim the spot.


Tiongco has been an achiever. In 2015, he finished his Junior High School at Future International Academy where he set the highest average of 99.5 percent.


Apart from such achievement, he earned a Certificate of Merit for ranking first in the national Olympiad of the New Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of Princeton Review. Said test is a standardized entrance exam used by colleges and universities in the US and other countries across the world.


He further garnered First in Excellence under the STEM strand at SLU – Laboratory Senior High School and graduated from collge as magna cum laude.


Total passers


In total, 3,982 out of 5,401 (73.73%) passed the exams.

The results of the examination with respect to two examinees were withheld pending final determination of their liabilities under the rules and regulations governing licensure examinations.


Those who failed to pass the board examination for Medical Technology but had obtained a general rating of at least 70% can register as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Professional Regulation Commission said.


The date and venue for the oathtaking ceremony of passers will be announced by the PRC later.
