Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Department of Trade and Industry-Kalinga awarded top grocery stores that continue to promote and display locally-made products in One Town, One Product (OTOP) Shelves provided by the agency.

The awarding ceremony took place on December 12 during the year-end gathering event at the Davidson Hotel in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

To help the local economy grow, stores in the province have been encouraged to sell local produce of local processors, craftsmen, and manufacturers by using OTOP shelves provided by DTI.

Aurelia Sanet of DTI-Kalinga said that by the installation of OTOP shelves MSMEs and retailers will both generate income, a strategy that could be advantageous to all.

Sanet disclosed that more than P3,000,000 in sales were made within a year of the OTOP shelves' implementation. With this, the agency recognized the stores with OTOP high sales.

Kingsquare Byle Supermart won the Sales Champion Award for its average monthly income of P85,000.

Further, Trader’s Mart in Rizal, Kalinga, Bayle the Store-Dagupan Branch, ZKart Convenience Store in Bulanao, Kingsquare Byle Supermart-Bacras Branch, Kingsquare Bayle Supermart-Main Branch, Yzabhel Variety Store in Bulanao, Kalinga Ethnic Boutique in Bulanao, Getwell Convenience Store, and MV Arts and Signs were recognized for their invaluable support in the marketing campaign of locally-made products.

What is OTOP?

OTOP is a retail store and marketplace to promote local products. MSMEs are the government's top goal for its stimulus program since they may be modified to promote inclusive local economic growth.

Said program is under the DTI that enables localities and communities to develop, support, and advertise culturally-based goods and services in areas where they excel or are well-known.
