Student dies after vehicle fell into ravine in Mt. Province

Bontoc, Mt. Province – An ROTC cadet of the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College-Tadian Campus died in an accident after their vehicle plunged into a ravine in Sitio Dantay, Alab, Bontoc this February 23, 2022.


The cadet was identified as Darryl Maggay, an ROTC Cadet 1st Class, Cor Commander at MPSPC-Tadian.


According to Mountain Province Police Provincial Office, Maggay along with Sgt. Cornelio Cudli of the Philippine Army was found by the personnel of Bontoc Municipal Police Station lying on the ground in Sitio Dantay.

The two were found after the police responded to a report of a concerned citizen around 5:20 AM telling them of a vehicle falling into a gorge.


The two were rushed by the responding personnel to Bontoc General Hospital. Unfortunately, Maggay, who was unconscious, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Initial investigation of the police disclosed that the two victims were on board a white Mitsubishi Adventure which was being driven by Cudli. The two were said to have come from Baguio City. While they were traversing the road, the driver lost control of the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to fall into a 50-meter deep ravine in Sitio Dantay.


Further investigation of the incident is still ongoing.
