Pinukpuk, Kalinga – A student group in a secondary school in the province has established rules for what students should and should not wear when entering the school grounds to allay concerns that students would wear whatever they want.

Recently, the Department of Education (Dep-Ed) mandated that students are not required to wear uniforms when going to school, thus concerns were raised regarding its possible unwanted consequences.

The Supreme Student Government of Pinukpuk Vocational School reminded their fellow students to at least wear decent clothes and practice proper grooming even the wearing of school uniform is not compulsory.

“Our goal on posting that, being the umbrella of the student body, is to promote the DepEd Core Values, Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan at Makabansa. We are advocating among learners the virtue of modesty and especially in this time of pandemic…. we are not forcing them to buy new clothes,” Luz Lingbawan, the group’s adviser told in a Messenger chat.

For male students, the student org said they are not allowed to cross-dress, use tattered jeans, shorts or shirts with disturbing and vulgar prints and images.

They are likewise told not to come with long hair, mustache and beard, or dye their hair.

Students are also advised not to wear earrings at school.

Female students, meantime, are not permitted to have bright-colored hair, disturbing bangs, to cross-dress, wear tattered jeans, tight-fitting pants, leggings, miniskirts, shorts, crop top, tube, spaghetti strap, see-through, off-shoulder, sleeveless, backless dress or blouse.

Similarly, they are not allowed to use clothing with vulgar or indecent prints and images.

“Kung mayroon nang uniporme, kayo ay hinihikayat na suotin na ito ngunit kung wala pa ay maaring magsuot ng kahit na anong puting damit o may kulay,” the student body added.
