Luna, Apayao – Super Typhoon Egay left 152 damaged houses in Apayao after lashing Northern Luzon with savage winds and rains this week according to July 28 data of the Apayao Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.

Of the total wrecked houses, 143 were partially damaged while 8 were totally destroyed.

Calanasan noted the highest number of damaged houses – 103 while Pudtol was fortunate enough, being the sole municipality to not record any house that was destroyed.

Among the listed damaged shelters in Calanasan are the three houses covered by a massive landslide in Butao where 6 individuals were buried alive, and are now the subject of a search and rescue operation.

Forty-nine others were recorded in Conner, Flora, Kabugao, Luna, and Santa Marcela.

SWO IV Jane Tarmad told PIO Apayao that most of the houses were slammed by howling winds, dismantled by fallen trees, covered with landslides if not taken by it, and others, swept away by turbulent flood waters.

Victims, she added, were already given initial assistance amounting to P1,241,874.52 in the form of food packs, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, and family kits, among others.

Meantime, Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. assured his support to the people of Apayao, emphasizing the need for a quick response, especially for those who were affected by the disaster.

"Importante nga napaspas ti response tayo. With the help of everybody and the LCEs of all the municipalities and their officials, our response is more effective and efficient. We have instructed our frontline services and disaster response teams to maintain their lines open, coordinate with concerned persons, and immediately answer distress calls," Bulut conveyed.

Based on the latest data, there are already 1,774 typhoon-affected families in Apayao, or 6,291 individuals, in particular.
