Suspect admits killing construction worker in Baguio due to bullying

Baguio City, Philippines – Bullying drove a construction laborer to kill his co-worker in Baguio City.

The accused, Gil Dela Torre Rodriguez, 58, who is now in the custody of Station 10 of the Baguio City Police Office, admitted to killing the victim, Joseph Calamba, 52, as he was fed up with bullying.

He claims his co-workers had been bullying him for being blind in one eye.

According to the suspect's confession to the police, he had a drinking spree with his fellow workers on the evening of Sept. 03 outside their barracks. It was around midnight when they finished their drinking session.

The two were about to enter their barracks when the victim allegedly made fun of him. Enraged, the suspect grabbed a pipe and struck him in the head with it, crushing Calamba’s skull.

Rodriguez affirmed he committed the crime alone and that he did not bury the victim, he merely pushed him to the vacant lot in Bakakeng Central, Marcos Highway.

Calamba’s brother, Joel, is not content with the suspect’s confession and believes that others are involved in killing his sibling.

Further investigation is ongoing, while homicide charges will be filed against Rodriguez.
