Tanudan Mayor Dagadag grants request for 92-year-old grandpa

Tanudan, Kalinga – A nonagenarian from Poblacion, Tanudan received an early Christmas gift from Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag as he was the recent recipient of the latter’s free wheelchair initiative.

Mayor Dagadag has been giving free wheelchairs to persons with disability and elderly people who can no longer walk in Tanudan to help them move around despite their condition. The mayor has been using his own resources for the said cause.

On December 10, 92-year-old Florencio Agyao from Barangay Poblacion got a wheelchair from the mayor.

According to Tanudan Information Officer John Ryan Awingan, the case of Agyao was referred to them by Nurse Edna Dulawon, asking if mayor Dagadag could sponsor the wheelchair of the elderly since he has difficulty in sitting up and walking without support due to his old age.

Mayor Dagadag immediately agreed to grant the request and bought the wheelchair upon receipt of his salary.

Awingan said that the mayor didn’t think twice to buy the said wheelchair in order to ease the burden of the family. He added that with the wheelchair, it would be less hassle for his relatives to bring him where he needed to be and even to take him outside the house for fresh air.

The information officer assures that providing free wheelchairs to those in need in Tanudan is a continuous advocacy of Mayor Dagadag.

“It’s not just because it’s Christmas isunga nga naited daytoy, but it's more on masapul tulungan tayu dagiti kakailyan nga agkasapulan. Nabayag nga programa daytoy ni mayor Jaedicke, nga sarili na nga kwarta us-usaren na tapnu lang matulungan ken maibsan dagiti rigrigat ti kailyan tayo kasla ken Ama Florencio,” he said.

In July this year, a 29-year-old PWD in Pangol, Tanudan received his second wheelchair from the mayor after the first one given to him was no longer functional.
