Tinglayan, Kalinga – To enhance the employees’ ability to respond fast and to strengthen preparedness in times of earthquake, the Municipal Local Government of Tinglayan conducted an earthquake drill at Mallango Elementary School on Thursday, March 10, 2022.

The activity, done through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), was in participation to the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).

During the exercise, the participants were briefed on the actions that should be done during and after an earthquake.

A simulation followed the discussion where the ‘duck, cover and hold’ procedure was enacted.

The public was reminded to stay in protective positions until the quake stops, then proceed to safe areas.

Training on first aid was likewise demonstrated for the participants to respond properly in cases of injury.

LDRMMA II Clemente Basing-at underscored the importance of earthquake preparation, saying, “earthquakes happen without warnings. Unlike typhoons we are able to know when it’ll happen and where it’s going to strike however with earthquakes, we can only its target and magnitude after it happens… We’ve invited you today to teach you what to do when an earthquake happens.”

Meanwhile, Wilbur Chaclag, Barangay Captain of Mallango, thanked Tinglayan MLGU for giving them the opportunity to learn useful things that they may apply in earthquake occurrence.

Mayor Sacrament Gumilab appreciated the efforts of those who helped conduct the activity, saying his administration fully supports this type of event. Gumilab added that the knowledge the employees gained and the demonstration during the drill shall greatly help in preparing them in case an earthquake strikes.
