Tinglayan, Kalinga – The Local Government of Tinglayan is getting ready for the visit of the 40 candidates vying for the ‘Man of the World’ crown this June 13, 2022.

The visit is part of the candidates’ itinerary in the pageant. Earlier this week, the pageant organizers had a meeting with Provincial Tourism Officer Lorraine Ngao-i and decided that going to Buscalan to meet the country’s oldest hand-tap tattoo artist, Apo Whang-od, shall be included.

Tinglayan Mayor Sacrament Gumilab disclosed in an interview with GURU Press Cordillera that candidates will have exclusive time with Apo Whang-od for photographs and short interviews during their visit.

The candidates who wish to be tattooed by the Tinglayan’s pride will have one. Gumilab said they already made the arrangement with Apo Wang-od and informed the barangay officials and the community of Buscalan regarding the activity.

“Napan idiay Buscalan ni tourism officer tayo tapnu i-coordinate na daytuy nga event. Always ready tayo latta,” Gumilab assured.

“We are happy about this because we are part of the pageant’s itinerary. It means a lot to our tourism industry for promotional purposes as this would make our place more visible to the world given that this is an international show,” Gumilab said.

After Buscalan visit, Man of the World candidates join Tabuk City Cultural Night

After their visit to Tinglayan, the candidates will head to Tabuk City for the cultural night where they are expected to auction items they brought with them.

The proceeds will fund charity works of the foundation.

A source said that part of the proceeds will be used for some children and weavers in Apayao province.
