Tinglayan traces history with ‘Project Funsi’, now half-way through the work

Tinglayan, Kalinga – In a recent report by the Tinglayan LGU, they said that researchers for the historical documentation of the different sub-tribes in Tinglayan through the ‘Project Funsi’ are now 50 percent done with the gathering of data in support to the local government’s pursuit to come up with a book, recording the culture, tradition and history of the yTinglayan people.

Project Funsi is an initiative of the LGU to research and record first hand, the history of the seven sub-tribes in Tinglayan composed of the yTongrayans, yFutfuts, ySumachers, yFasaos, yChananaos, yFangads and the yTurcaos, to educate younger and future generation by providing them references about their roots, in a way would help preserve their identity as a people.

To date, Tinglayan, like other municipalities in the province, does not have a book which details the culture, tradition and history of the municipality.

Developments of the ‘Project Funsi’

In an interview with Tinglayan Information Officer Larae Lactao, she said the team is now working on the crosschecking of documents on the history of Pochon, or peace pact, a certain law practiced by the yTongrayans and the yKalingas as a system to maintain peace among sub-tribes.

“Dayta ti maysa nga i-research da iti Funsi ta awan ti record iti nagaramid or the first person a nag-introduce ti Pochon dituy Tinglayan,” Lactao said.

Some researchers traveled to Kan-aw, Mountain Province to get some details regarding pochon, as the roots of the yTinglayan people, Lactao said, could be traced back to the nearby provinces.

For barangays covered by the Dananao and Butbut tribes, they are still on the stage of data gathering. These barangays include Dananao, Butbut Proper, Buscalan, Bugnay, Loccong and Ngibat.

The data gathering is done through interviews of identified resource persons, document reviews and observation (IDO) technique.

Focus group discussion is conducted after conversing individually with the eyewitnesses to further verify truthfulness of information shared by each source during the process.

For the document review, researchers are instructed to look for information and documents published either online or offline, such as books for fact checking of misstated information about Tinglayan.

After data gathering, information will then be compiled to serve as basis in the writing of the book.
