Tinglayan, Kalinga – Tourists planning to visit Buscalan Village in Tinglayan are advised to coordinate with their travel organizers regarding transportation arrangements following the collapse of the Makilo Bridge along the Tabuk–Bontoc Road in Barangay Bugnay on December 1, 2025.

With the bridge completely cut off, Tinglayan Municipal Administrator Atty. Mark Dave Bang-as announced that visitors heading to Buscalan to see Apo Whang-od—especially those traveling via Tabuk City—will need to transfer to another vehicle once they reach the end of the broken bridge.

According to Bang-as, a temporary bamboo footbridge has been installed below the collapsed structure, allowing commuters and passersby to cross to the other side and transfer to another vehicle.

“Announcement to tourists who are planning to go to Buscalan to coordinate with their organizers for them to arrange vehicle or motorcycle nga pag-transferan da idiay Makilo nu via Tabuk da,” he said. Bang-as added that due to the rainy weather in Kalinga, travelers going to Buscalan should also expect to walk certain distances because of landslides.

Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that they will construct a temporary Mabey-type bridge in Bugnay, which is expected to be completed in 60 days. They also stated that the permanent bridge in the area is scheduled for completion in June 2026.

In a statement, Mayor Charles Abay urged the DPWH to expedite the replacement of the Makilo Bridge to minimize inconvenience to travelers and affected communities, saying: “Ti dawaten tayo lang ti DPWH ket paspasan da panang-replace da ta dakkel talaga effect na community ken motorists, karu tatta nga agre-recover tayo ti damage diay Super Typhoon Uwan.”
