Tree stops bus from skidding off in Baguio

Baguio City, Philippines – Lives were saved by a roadside tree along Naguilian Road, officially the Quirino Highway, also known as the Baguio - Bauang Road, over the weekend.

An Isuzu bus was then heading toward Sablan when the incident occurred, Baguio City Police Office through the City Public Information Office reported.

It was around 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, when the bus reached the descending part of the highway, particularly along Purok 13 Irisan village, when the bus ended up going out of control due to a brake malfunction.

The vehicle crashed into a pine tree at the side of the highway which prevented the bus from skidding off.

The bus incurred heavy damage on its front portion.

Meanwhile, the driver, along with eight passengers on board, was brought to the hospital after sustaining injuries.

In a separate vehicular accident in the city on Sept. 27, an Isuzu mini-dump truck loaded with 300 pieces of steel bars slid and overturned while ascending toward Legarda Road.

According to an investigation conducted, the rope used to tie the steel bars loosened. As a result, the materials slid to the right side portion and the vehicle lost balance in return.

Fortunately, no one was harmed.
