Tricycle driver tries to steal for child’s tuition, shot by retired soldier in Isabela

Santiago City, Isabela – As they say, poverty is no excuse for crime.

A father facing financial difficulties in paying for his child’s tuition attempted to steal from a house in Valley Homes Subdivision, Barangay Patul, Santiago City.

The Commander of City Police Station 3, PCapt. Filemon Carabacan Jr., stated that recently, a 43-year-old suspect entered the house of his former employer, who happens to be a retired army.

Awakened by their pet dog's incessant barking, the former soldier opened his room's door and found the suspect inside. Upon confronting the suspect about his presence, the suspect attempted to stab him, forcing the former army to shoot him with his cal. 40 firearm.

Despite being wounded, the suspect managed to flee. However, the responding personnel were able to track blood drops to the suspect’s house, where they learned he had been rushed to the hospital.

The police recovered the kitchen knife used by the suspect to threaten the victim, the victim’s firearm, and a pouch containing P23,240, which the suspect had attempted to steal.
