Tuba, Benguet crowns first Mr. And Ms. Rabbit


Benguet, Philippines - Aiming to promote the rabbit industry as a livelihood for farmers to cope with the effects of the pandemic, the Municipality of Tuba, Benguet held its first Rabbit Festival, featuring a pageant showcasing their rabbits on March 08, 2022.


According to a report by PTV-Cordillera this March 15, 2022, the Search for the First Mr. And Ms. Rabbit was organized by the Sanagi Agri-Tourism Farm in Begis, Poblacion.

“We conducted this to promote the rabbit industry, the food, and how they will love the rabbit. Naisip ko pong i-promote ang food kasi po marami pong pwedeng pag-process-an ang rabbit, you can make it as buttered rabbit, rabbit kiniing, rabbit inasal pwede din po syang rabbit shanghai,” Sharon Bitso of Sanagi Agri-Tourism Farm said.


Bitso relayed a total of six rabbit candidates entertained the judges and audience who attended said event. Each candidate was judged based on beauty and charm, body built, grooming, friendliness, and active characteristics.


Among the candidates, Esperienza, the pet of Earl Brian Ducat, was hailed as the first Ms. Rabbit, while Flakes, the pet of Christian Kyle Avelino, emerged as Mr. Rabbit.

Also held during the rabbit festival is the rabbit food activity which is expected to encourage women and youth to join rabbit farming and production.


Elmer Montino of Tuba Municipal Tourism Office observed that the festival is a good opportunity for the local government unit to form a collaboration with non-government organizations and civil society organizations to improve rabbit production.
