Vintage artillery bomb explodes in Chico River, Samoki, Bontoc

Bontoc, Mountain Province – An Unexploded Explosive Ordnance (UXO) or a military explosive that did not explode or function as intended which was found at Sitio Pangpang, Chico River, Samoki, Bontoc, Mountain Province reportedly exploded on Monday, December 20.

Philippine National Police-Mountain Province, in a press release, revealed that the vintage artillery bomb was discovered by Jefferson Lakaw while working at said place on December 12.

For their safety, Lakaw put the bomb on top of stones few meters away from where they are working.

On December 20, Lakaw and company noticed the bomb producing smoke. They immediately run and took cover until the bomb exploded with a blaring sound.

No casualty nor injuries were reported.

Responding authorities from the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office led by Provincial Director, Police Colonel Ruben Andiso advised the workers and the community to report to the office when finding similar explosive to avoid such incidents.

Meanwhile, the exploded vintage bomb was turned over to Provincial Explosive Canine Unit for proper disposition.
