Baguio City, Philippines — The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) officially reopened the newly modernized Track and Field Oval at Teacher’s Camp in Baguio City on May 16, giving athletes and the public free access to a training facility designed to meet international standards.

The sports oval is located inside the historic Teacher’s Camp in Baguio City, which was established in 1908 as a training and vacation center for teachers during the American period.

Over the years, the site evolved into both an educational and athletic hub and became a preferred training ground for runners and national athletes because of Baguio’s high altitude, which helps improve endurance and conditioning.

Before the rehabilitation, the Teacher’s Camp oval had long served as a training venue for elite athletes due to Baguio’s cool climate and high-altitude environment.

The PSC Baguio complex also houses a gymnasium, dormitory, and strength training facilities used by national athletes in boxing, taekwondo, karate, muay thai, kickboxing, and other sports disciplines.

The Newly Reopened Oval

The upgraded oval now features an Olympic-quality synthetic rubberized track, improved drainage systems, and enhancements designed to meet World Athletics certification standards.

The facility is open daily from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with free admission for both athletes and the general public, although registration is required.

To improve safety and traffic flow, the PSC implemented lane assignments: Lanes 1 to 3 are designated for fast running and athletic training; Lanes 4 to 6 are for jogging and steady-paced runs; while Lanes 7 and 8 are intended for walking, warm-ups, and light exercise.

With its upgraded facilities and free public access, the PSC Baguio Track Oval is expected to continue serving both national athletes and local residents as one of the country’s premier high-altitude training venues.
