Wounded soldiers in Gattaran, Cagayan awarded gallantry medals

Gattaran, Cagayan – The Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) awarded two wounded soldiers for gallantry in action against the Communist Terrorist Group in Barangay Tanglagan, Gattaran, Cagayan on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

It can be recalled that another encounter occurred on Friday at the same place where a New People’s Army member was killed.

During his visit at Camp Melchor F Dela Cruz on March 19, Major General Fernyl Buca, Commander of NOLCOM pinned the Wounded Personnel Medal to Sergeants Wilme D. Arce and Marlon C. Layron in recognition of their bravery and selfless dedication in the 40-minute clash.

Both of the soldiers are now in stable condition, said the 5th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

Buca commended the efforts and sacrifices of government troops, especially those on the frontline, securing and protecting the people against the atrocities and illegal activities of the communist group.

The Commander guaranteed the full support of NOLCOM in their fight to end insurgency.

The door of Cagayan Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict remains open for the return of the remaining Communist Party of the Philippines - New People’s Army members to the folds of the law.
