WWII vintage bomb unearthed in San Quintin, Abra

San Quintin, Abra – Vintage materials are often kept for their value but not for the vintage bomb recovered by authorities on Wednesday, February 8 at Sitio Barit-Barit, Villa Mercedes, San Quintin.

The unexploded bomb was first discovered by laborers on February 7 while fencing at the residence of Elma Perez.

While digging, one of them noticed a metal stuck in the ground where they were working.

Assuming that the metal could be something, Perez told her workers to stop digging.

A non-uniform police personnel, meantime, notified local police about the metal a day later, urging police to check the information.

Prior to the arrival of the police, residents in the area, including barangay officials partially dug it and saw a vintage bomb.

Provincial Explosives and Canine Unit (PECU) - Abra was then called for the unearthing of the bomb.

Investigation of the team disclosed the bomb is a 1,000-pound General Purpose World War II bomb.

To be able to totally pull out the explosive, police were joined by BFP, San Quintin LGU, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), and barangay officials in the excavation process.

It was later pulled out from the area with the use of a bulldozer at around 2:45 PM of the same day.

For further investigation, the bomb was ferried by personnel of PECU at their office in Bangued, Abra.
