Balbalan, Kalinga – Residents in Balbalan are all safe and are back to their daily routines and work following the end of series of gun battles between the military and the rebels in town, according to Mayor Almar Malannag.

It could be recalled that on May 31 and June 7, the troops of the 503rd Infantry Brigade and members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla (KLG) Baggas exchanged fire four times in Balbalan Proper, Balantoy, and Maling.

Since then, Malannag along with the Balbalan Local Government Unit personnel worked closely with the military and police for aid, support, and monitoring of the affected barangays.

On June 10, the mayor informed that no civilians were hurt during the clashes and operations, and that they have already returned to work.

“Awan ti taktak ditoy, napan da kinitan dagiay taltalon dan ta panaga-ani tatta,” he said.

While the military is still pursuing the remaining rebels, Malannag relayed that the LGU is working together and on standby to provide support to the citizens and to ensure their safety.

“Intact amin nga concerned agencies ditoy karkaru kanyak nga maysa nga ama iti Balbalan, kadagitoy MDRRM, kada MHO, intact kami amin ditoy. Always ready kami,” he relayed.
