yKalinga cop shot dead by colleague in Ilocos Sur

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A police from Tabuk City, Kalinga was found lying in a pool of blood Thursday morning, July 20, 2023.

Police Corporal Jeric Ace Abaoag, 29, was discovered lifeless on the 3rd floor of Narvacan Municipal Police Station (MPS) where he was deployed, just a few feet from his dead colleague, Patrolman Joe Mendoza, 27, from Balaoan, La Union.

Initial investigation by the police revealed that duty personnel of the Narvacan MPS, who were then on the ground floor, rushed upstairs after hearing three gunshots around 7:30 a.m. today.

Narvacan Chief of Police, PMaj. Alexander Dangli, in an interview with Bombo Radyo Vigan, relayed that only Abaoag and Mendoza were the ones at the crime scene when the incident happened.

“Tatlo yung narinig namin na putok … unang dalawa, dalawang magkasunod tapos may mga seconds lang na pagitan [before the third gunshot sound],” he said.

It was alleged that Mendoza, who was holding a firearm when found, shot Abaoag twice before killing himself.

The firearm used in the crime was a Caliber 9mm.

The motive for the crime is still being established by police investigators.

Abaoag, meanwhile, is survived by his grieving wife and three children.
