yKalinga students secure international outstanding research award

Conducting a research study is not a stroll in the park, especially for students. For many, if not most, it is one of the most challenging and dreaded aspects of college life.

Despite facing their fair share of struggles, a team of young researchers in Kalinga can proudly say that everything they endured to complete their study was worth it after their work recently stood out in an international student research congress (ISRC).

These young researchers and student nurses, namely Arawn Josh Bacacao, Mary Chris Balcanao, Cislyn Faith Banasan, Gladys Assudo, Remy Ann Asiw, Angel Sychamore Bakidan, Gerah Mae Bang-i, Coleen Barrera, Novalie Benitez, and Marijoy Boccol, are from St. Tonis College Inc.

Representing the team, Bacacao virtually presented their study, 'Assessing Mother’s Knowledge and Attitude on Routine Immunization: A Cross-Sectional Study at Kalinga Provincial Hospital,' in the ISRC of the Institute of Industry and Academic Research Incorporated on January 19, 2024.

Among the submissions in the Humanities and Social Sciences track, the study was awarded the outstanding research award.

In a Facebook post, Bacacao acknowledged all the people behind the feat, particularly their adviser, Krizhel Mirja Cawas, whom he credited for providing unending support and guidance.

“From being the last one to have a proposal defense (almost couldn't defend), to being the first one to present outside of school (1st Apayao Health Research Congress), and now not just the first one to present at an international platform but also the first to win an award,” he wrote.
