Young man dies after falling into waterfall in Allacapan, Cagayan

Allacapan, Cagayan - A 24-year-old man died after falling and getting pulled underwater at a waterfall in Silagan, Allacapan on Monday, August 28.

Rescuers from the Allacapan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office proceeded to the area after being notified of the incident by the victim's companion.

Accordingly, the victim only accompanied a friend to said barangay to deliver some groceries when they suddenly thought of going to a waterfall located near the area.

When there, they climb the topmost part of the waterfall to get some photos and videos featuring the falls.

It was then that the victim, identified as Jonathan Cortez, accidentally stepped into a mossy rock, resulting in him to fall off the waterfall.

"Ang sabi nila nadulas siya sa may falls nahulog at natagpuan na lang sa baba na patay na... nalunod sa nakahulugan niyang falls kasi malalim daw yung ibaba nun," a relative of the victim said in an interview.

His body was recovered by responding rescuers and ferried to the hospital, but he died while being treated.

His remains are now at their house in Sitio Calappawan, Fugu, Ballesteros.
