Young mother suffering from bone and joint tuberculosis needs HELP

A young mother in Kalinga Province suffering from bone and joint tuberculosis is in need of immediate help to see a specialist, one which she cannot afford.

23-year-old Jamaica Tayawan wanted to finish her studies to prepare for the future of her daughter, but that was stalled due to her sickness. Jamaica is from Barangay Ipil, Tabuk City and she’s currently admitted to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital where she was diagnosed with the disease.

Jamaica related that she endured pain on her both feet for some years until she lost the ability to walk. She couldn't afford to pay for hospital fees, so she had not been taken to the hospital until lately.

Now, Jamaica needs to be checked by a specialist, but it costs much.

As narrated by her classmate, Jamaica wanted nothing other than to finish her studies in order to help her family.

“Idi pay lang iman nga kayat na nga makalpas ni Jamaica ti panagiskwela na ngem problema financial da tapos diay sitwasyon na,” Katleen narrated.

Jamaica’s condition

Katleen Mae Lastimosa Cabe, a former classmate of Jamaica, said the condition could be traced back to Jamaica’s right foot being infected when she stepped on a snail when she was still young. The wound was never checked. When she reached high school, it was found the foot had to be cut to prevent the spread of infection in her body.

At that time, she was still able to attend school.

However, just before she could finish grade 12 at Tabuk City National High School, she had to stop, as she could no longer bear the pain on her right foot.

This January 25, Katleen and their other classmates decided to visit Jamaica to give her a little help. It was then they discovered that Jamaica’s left foot was not in good condition either.

“Diay maysa nga saka na kasla nga nag-umbal ma’am nga sabali metten, kasla nga adda na-fracture, kasla killo kasdiay ngay … tapos bed ridden isunan ngay ma’am. Mabalin suna maka-wheelchair ngem haan sunan makapagna,” she described.

A day after their visit to Jamaica, they were informed that their classmate was rushed to KPH due to difficulty of breathing and is now currently admitted there.

Katleen shared that Jamaica has a 3-year-old daughter and her partner is a construction worker. Additionally, her parents are a farmer and a laborer and their income is not enough to bring her to a specialist.
