Tanudan, Kalinga – Kalinga’s culture and heritage were showcased by a group of yTanudan students in Davao’s most popular festival recently.

The Kalinga Bodong Dance Troupe composed of 14 students from Biga National High School in Tanudan performed at the 38th Kadayawan Festival in Davao City on August 18 – 20, 2023.

Kadayawan Festival, a much anticipated celebration in Davao came from the word ‘Madayaw’ which means treasure or valued. The fest is being held annually by locals as thanks giving for a bountiful harvest.

Biga National High School told GURU Press Cordillera they allowed their learners – 7 girls and 7 boys to participate in said festival to further cultivate the youth’s passion for their culture amidst technological advances.

Giving the younger ones the opportunity to practice their cultural dance, they added, is also a way of preserving the culture for the next generation.

“This is one way for them to instill the importance of having awareness of our cultural dances as it surely portrays our being as members of Kalinga tribe and that could make our province unite peacefully for the future generation,” they added.
