12,000 Kalinga rice farmers receive P5,000 cash assistance this week

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Around 12,000 rice farmers in Kalinga receive P5,000 cash assistance from the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund of the government this March 10-13, 2022.

The amount came from the P362 Million share of the Cordillera Region from the excess rice tariffs collection in 2020, says Edwin Joseph Franco, Regional Rice Program Coordinator at Department of Agriculture Cordillera.

Franco explained that under Republic Act 11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law, if the annual tariff revenue exceeds to P10 Billion, a portion of the excess shall be made as financial assistance to qualified rice farmers.

He added that the rice farmers who are covered by the assistance are those who are registered under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture or RSBSA as of August 11, 2021 with landholding not higher than 2 hectares.

He further said that those who are unqualified farmers for the assistance will be automatically crossed out from the list.

“Daytoy sumaruno diay georeferencing, geotagging nu maduktalan tatta a dagitoy ket awan gayam rice area dan, awan mabalin tayo ta naited tayon diay 5,000 but we will cross out their names on the list,” he said.

The coverage of annual payout of excess of rice tariff revenues will be until 2024.
