19 fake professionals face criminal charges in Cordillera

Baguio City, Philippines – As of Oct. 31, at least 19 fake professionals are facing criminal cases in the region, says Professional Regulation Commission – Cordillera Director Juanita Domogen during the November 28 Kapihan sa Benguet.

In previous years, some employees who misrepresented education, experience, training, and eligibility qualifications or used fake or spurious credentials to qualify for position were put behind bars.

In 2016, five bogus professionals were sent to prison terms up to four years and nine months with fines for falsification of public documents and one for perjury. In 2019, three fake professionals posing as a dentist, a pharmacist, and a civil engineer were likewise jailed.

Most of those with pending cases at present are posing dentists and as Domogen clarified, not all of them are Cordillerans.

“Nagkataon lang na sa Cordillera nag-file ng renewal or whatever documents na sinubmit niya sa office kaya namin siya na-entrap… Hindi kailangang nasa Cordillera yung nag-complain. Probably, nag-file lang sila ng complaint dito because of accessibility. Pwedeng galing kasi sa La Union,” she explained.

Employers are warned anew to verify first with PRC the credentials submitted by applicants for employment or promotion.
