Abra PNP reports two shooting incidents on New Year

Abra, Philippines – A man and a woman were hospitalized following two separate shooting incidents on Saturday, January 1, in San Juan and Dolores towns of Abra.


San Juan Police reported that they received a call from a concerned citizen at around 12:50 a.m. of New Year about a shooting incident in Barangay Nangobongan, San Juan, involving a man.


Police said they responded immediately to the said incident and found a 59-year-old retired soldier, identified as Arnold Bersalona Montero, with his live-in partner inside their house with a gunshot wound to the side of his belly.


Initial investigation revealed that the victim went out to fix the water hose leading to their house when the shooting incident happened.


Investigation about the identity of the suspect and the motive of the shooting is still ongoing.

Shooting incident in Dolores


The second shooting incident happened at around 7:30 p.m. on the same date in Barangay Mudiit, Dolores, Abra.


Dolores Police identified the victim as Sandra Dela Cruz Junios, 27, and the suspect as Danilo Balino Batarina, 42, the live-in partner of the victim. Both are residents of said barangay.

According to the police, Junios and Batarina were inside their house when a heated argument sparked between them. Junios then went out of the house to take a bath, but Batarina took his gun and fired at her.


Junios sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken by her father to Abra Provincial Hospital. Batarina fled after the incident.


Dolores Police is asking the cooperation of Abra residents regarding the whereabouts of the suspect. Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.
