Peñarrubia, Abra – A 23-year-old father who worked tirelessly to provide for his growing family died a day after figuring in a motorcycle crash in Peñarrubia, Abra, leaving behind his pregnant wife, two young children, and the dreams he hoped to fulfill for them.

The victim was identified by police as Rospero Barcena, a road maintenance worker ("kaminero") employed by the Provincial Government of Abra.

Based on the initial police report, the tragic accident occurred on Saturday, July 11, along a road in Peñarrubia.

CCTV footage reportedly showed Barcena riding his motorcycle at high speed before he lost control and crashed into a streetlight pole. Police said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The impact completely wrecked the motorcycle and threw Barcena several meters away from the crash site.

Responding authorities rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he fought for his life. However, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, July 12.

Initial investigation further indicated that Barcena may have consumed alcoholic drinks before the incident. Authorities have yet to release the final results of their investigation.

Dreams for his family left unfinished

According to local media reports, Barcena often shared with his wife his dream of saving enough money to buy a piece of land and build a home where they could raise their children.

He also looked forward to watching his children grow up and celebrating life's milestones with them—a dream that was tragically cut short.

Barcena is survived by his wife, their three-year-old child, their eight-month-old baby, and another child on the way. His wife is currently seven months pregnant.

Family appeals for assistance

Now mourning the loss of their family's breadwinner, Barcena's loved ones are appealing for financial assistance to help cover his burial and funeral expenses.

For the family, the days that should have been spent preparing for the arrival of their newest member have instead become days of grief as they bid farewell to a husband and father whose greatest dream was to give his family a better future.
