43-yr.-old man drowns in Malatag River in Rizal, Cagayan


Rizal, Cagayan – A picnic turned tragic when a 43-year-old man drowned while swimming in Malatag River along Sitio Ferry in Barangay Mauanan, Rizal, Cagayan past 12 noon of Sunday, March 05.

The victim had a drinking spree with his relatives under the bridge in said area. After his consumption of alcoholic beverages, he decided to take a bath in the river, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) through Cagayan Provincial Information Office reported.


He went to the deep portion of the river and lost control of himself, resulting in his drowning. With the strong river current, the victim was not immediately rescued.


By the time the MDRRMO reached the area, the victim was already being resuscitated by his relatives.


He was soon rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.


The victim was identified as Domingo Canay who was a resident of Baluncanag village, Rizal, Cagayan.
