5 Ifugao wood sculptors advance to GSIS National Arts Competition Finals

Lagawe, Ifugao - Out of the thirteen finalists of the Government Security Insurance Service’s (GSIS) National Arts Competition - Sculpture Category, five of them are from the province of Ifugao.

 

Now in its 19th year, the GSIS National Arts Competition is one of the largest and longest-running art competitions in the country.

 

The competition has three categories- the representational; nonrepresentational; and sculpture category.

 

In this year’s sculpture category, five sculpture entries of the five wood carvers of Ifugao successfully made it to the finals after being judged.

 

These include the “Broken Family,” entry by Raymondo Dong-e, “No Turning Back” entry by Jesilie Lang-Udan, “Pagbabago” by Santos B. Bayucca, “Mangangalakal” by Alexander Pucdihon, and the “Mun-abol” entry of Benjie Chilagan.

 

The list of the other finalists was posted on the GSIS’s Facebook page.

 

The top three winners will be announced on August 16. The awarding ceremony will take place at the GSIS Museo ng Sining in Pasay City.

 

The first place shall receive P350,000, while the second and third placer will be receiving P300,000 and P250,000 respectively.
