50 Kalinga youth join DTI's Entrepreneurship Program to prepare for their business startup

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A total of 300 Youth participants from the whole Cordillera Administrative Region attended the virtual launching and orientation of Year 2 Cordillera -Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) on September 15, 2021.


Via zoom, 50 young entrepreneurs from Kalinga joined the orientation where 43 attended thru online streaming, while around 7 participated as a group at the Davidson Hotel, Bulanao following the maximum IATF protocols.


Said program intends to expand the skills and knowledge of entrepreneurship among the youth in the region.

The topic discussed include the 7M’s for Accelerating Competitiveness of Young Entrepreneurs, the Potentials of Youth as Entrepreneurs, Overview, and Accomplishments of the YEP, the Department of Agriculture’s Program for the participants, Small Business Financing Programs, Announcement of YEP Modules, and the Testimonials of the Youth Entrepreneurs.


According to YEP 2 Coordinator Engr. Engread Bangniwan, registration is still ongoing and as of now, there are 7 yKalinga youth entrepreneurs enrolled for the YEP 2. They will undergo 4 modules that will run from October 1 to October 22, 2021.


“This program gives hands-on experience, coming up in an actual or new business proposal tapos at the end (of the program) adda ‘ti business pitching… they will present their output and aside from that they can extend and (maybe) do networking after,” Bangniwan said.\

YEP is open to all youth in the Cordillera ages 18 to 30 years old who want to become productive individuals through entrepreneurship.


Around 15 youngsters graduated from YEP last year in the province.


Youth Entrepreneurship Program


Republic Act No. 10679 or known as the Youth Entrepreneurship Act mandates the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Council (MSMEDC) to help young Filipinos develop their entrepreneurial skills by offering them a comprehensive package of interventions.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) implements the national program to promote youth entrepreneurship development.
