58-year-old woman dies after vehicle plunged into 20-meter ravine in Bontoc

Bontoc, Mt. Province — A 58-year-old woman died after a vehicle she was in fell into a 20-meter deep ravine in Lengwa, Mainit, Bontoc on Wednesday, April 13.


According to the Bontoc Operations Center, a Toyota Land Cruiser ferrying four individuals who attended a wedding in Maligcong, Bontoc was on their way to Barangay Mainit around 5:00 PM when the incident happened.


According to reports, the driver Kenneth Sokoken, 47, was said to have overtaken a Toyota Innova that signaled to be going to their right. But when the driver stepped on the accelerator as they were ascending the road, he lost control of the steering wheel.

This sent them crashing against the parapet then down to the ravine.


Unfortunately, one of the four occupants of the involved vehicle who was identified as Estefania Padcayan was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital due to brain Herniation secondary to Traumatic Brain Injury secondary from the vehicular traffic accident.


As for the two occupants, Rosa Ridao, 71, and Sokoken were already discharged by the doctor while their companion, Annie Pad-ang, 36, was said to have refused to be brought to the hospital.
